Merano, the second biggest city in the area, is one of the most popular destinations of South Tyrol, mostly known for its thermal baths. Since centuries, various popular historical characters have been travelling to Merano for their thermal cures. Merano, the second biggest city in the area, is one of the most popular destinations of South Tyrol, mostly known for its thermal baths. Since centuries, various popular historical characters have been travelling to Merano for their thermal cures. Recently, a new modern thermal complex has been inaugurated, featuring several pools with medicinal water, gym, sauna, hotel and recreational area. Besides, Merano is also a popular historical town with medieval buildings, arcaded galleries, ancient churches, medieval gates and fortifications. Even the promenade along the Passirio River is a pleasant spot for an afternoon stroll. The view around Merano is second to none, with the towering mountains reaching up to 3300 metres.
