Mussoorie’s ‘Wall of Hope’ is a gentle reminder to tourists to not litter

The people of Mussoorie have built a ‘Wall of Hope’, with all the plastic bottles to remind tourists of the litter they leave behind. Mussoorie attracts a lot of visitors from the neighbouring cities; so much so that it gets choked by over tourism. It has, therefore, come up with a beautiful way to spread a great message.

When the summer holidays start, almost everyone turns toward the hills. While these relaxing vacations of people turn these places into a dumping ground, the environmental hazard that the dumps create is beyond words. So now, the locals of Mussoorie have put up a huge installation to spread this message of no littering in the hills.
If records are to go by, Mussoorie attracts more than 25 lakh visitors per year, which lead to massive traffic jams during the peak season. The wall that has been built to spread awareness is 12 ft tall and 1500 ft long. To build this wall, plastic bottles have been collected from different places in Mussoorie; the initiative is a part of the Hilldaari Project.
The founder of the Museum of Goa, Subodh Kerkar is the brain behind the design of the wall. Referring to this, Arvind Shukla, the project manager of Hilladaari group, said that to construct the Wall of Hope, around 50 volunteers from schools and colleges came forward. Village locals also took part in this initiative, and all of them worked effortlessly to ensure that this project turns into a success story.
Talking about this, a villager mentioned that they really liked the way the wall has been built, and the village is now looking more beautiful.

With the menace that plastic waste has become, the move is indeed unique, urging tourists to be more responsible.
