Once a sleepy river town, Vang Vieng shot to fame with its daytime tubing on the river and crazy party scenes till the late night. The bars on the river banks became notorious for luring travellers into risking their life. After few accidents the rampant tubing has been brought under control. It is still a fun activity provided you do not go overboard with the alcohol and craziness. Gliding on the waters of Nam Song river in large rubber tubes is a great fun. You can experience the riverfront and cool waters from the tubes floating on the water. If tubing is not your scene then opt for kayaking. The slow current of the river is perfect for novices trying their hands at rowing. A full day kayaking trip takes you around the local attractions which include water caves and bat caves. Normal motorized boats can be hired to visit the scenic riverside vistas if you do not know how to swim. Whichever method you choose, a trip down Nam Song river is a must while visiting Vang Vieng!
