The Nara Park is a vast green field land encompassing 4 world heritage sites of UNESCO and pleasant pathways wrapped in multihued maple trees, pretty flowers and tranquil ponds. Apart from all the picturesque silences that it holds, the thing about Nara Park that really charms people―locals and tourists alike―are not the sights (which are all impressive by the way!) but a tamed army of around 1200 deers who revel in their sacred status as ‘Messengers of God’. You can meet these deers the moment you enter the park as they are allowed to dawdle around freely without any caged control. The only thing you will ever need to know about them is that they are crazy about their food―a special type of biscuit called shika seinbei or deer crackers.
