If there is one Croatian Island that succeeds in seducing the most skeptical of travellers, then it’s Mljet Island. It’s also conveniently located, just two and a half hours away from Dubrovnik. The densely forested island has some gorgeous nature trails and salt water lakes. It is also home to quaint villages and picturesque vineyards. All these add up to make it an area of exceptional natural beauty. A large part of the island is taken by the Mljet National Park. Don’t come back without exploring Lake Veliko and Malo Jezera. The two salt-water lakes provide perfect opportunity to sample Croatia’s natural wonders and are apt for gorgeous photographs. It’s also possible to jump in for a dip in warm waters of the lakes here. Spend the afternoon lingering over some local specialties—wine, goat’s cheese and olives. When you’ve eaten to your heart’s content, go for a long walk around Mljet’s Mediterranean forests. Here in Mljet, it is hard not to be taken in by its sheer splendor.
