Pulau Payar Marine Park

A number of tiny islands scattered amongst the turquoise waters of the ocean comprise the Pulau Payar Marine Park. Pulau Payar is just 30 km away from Langkawi Island. It isn’t possible to spend the night at Pulau Payar but you can definitely spend one whole day exploring various islands. You can rent a private boat or catamaran or visit some of the islands as part of a guided tour.
We recommend the former, even though the latter is definitely the more popular option. This is because most guided tours stop on the same islands, which tend to get very crowded because of the hordes of tourists thronging their beaches. If you opt for a private tour, you can explore the marine park in a relaxed fashion. Go for a picnic on a deserted island, go scuba diving or snorkelling and acquaint yourself with the rich marine life in this part of the world, or just top up your tan—the options are truly endless! Most hotels can arrange private boat rides to Pulau Payar but if you’re on a budget, drive to the jetty and bargain with boat owners there for the best deal.
