In a new development, Indian aviation sector has now been permitted to construct a new international airport in Pune. The second Pune airport would be called Chatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport.
The construction of the new Pune international airport would be overseen by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company. Reportedly, the construction would cost somewhere around 140 billion INR, and would be operational by 2020.

Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation said in a tweet, "The existing airport [at Pune] has exhausted its capacity and this new airport will help us add more passenger flights and cargo operations."
The new airport could provide flyers from Pune, and other places nearby with options. It will definitely help with the passenger traffic that has had a record growth in recent times. The airport will be closer to villages such as Ambodi, Kumbharvalan, Pargaon Memane, Vanpuri, among others. The airport is connected to Rajewadi railway station located on Pune-Miraj-Londa line. Also, the airport will be connected to six different routes, which would include National Highways 17 and 48.
