Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai remained closed for commercial operations on November 4 due to the maintenance and repair tasks that need attention. Further, the airport will stay shut for six days a week till March 28, 2020.
Meanwhile, the airport will keep its second runway operational, which is capable of handling a minimum of 36 flights an hour. However, on festive occasions and holidays, the main runway of Mumbai airport will be made fully functional.
Mumbai airport handles about 900 flight arrivals and departures on a daily basis. It is the second busiest airport in India after Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.
As per the press reports, the runway repair work was postponed due to the long-stretched monsoon season. Initially, it was scheduled to start on November 1, but was further delayed.
During early 2019, both the runways of Mumbai airport were shut from February 7 to March 30 for maintenance work.
