Arguably the best place to snorkel in all of Antigua, Green Island is located just off the island’s east coast and is accessible only by boat. It also happens to be one of the quietest beaches in Antigua, alas a little out of the way. This humpbacked island offers several beaches, strips of soft velvety sand with a backdrop of colourful foliage and is actually privately owned. For those visitors travelling with children, it is important to know that there aren’t any public washrooms here. To get to Green Island you’d be required to hire a charter shuttle, take a boat eco-tour or book a lunch at Harmony Hall in which case there will a shuttle for you for the afternoon. You will want to bring your own snorkel, mask, and fins if you plan on heading into the waters and discovering the exquisite marine life, which includes plenty of sea turtles and stingrays. Don’t worry about theses beaches being crowded either, as most of the time you can have them to yourselves, along with the lizards that roam the sands. If your idea of a day on the beach includes plenty of relaxation, soft sand to sink your toes into, clear calm waters and deserted beaches, make sure to head on over to Green Island.
