Well, if you go by what legends have to say, this island is haunted by a spirit of a young girl, who was drowned off a small island hidden deep amongst the canals of Xochimilco The island’s only permanent inhabitant was a hermit, named Don Julian Santana Barrera, who chose to live here, despite having a wife and family.

When he first moved there, Don Julian claims that he heard the spirit of a girl screaming, "I want my doll." Following which, he found a doll near where he had heard the screams, which he hung up on a nearby tree as a gift to the girl’s ghost.
Don Julian began hanging them on trees, believing that it would protect himself from the evil spirit. He added that most of the dolls had missing body parts, while some had lost their limbs, others didn’t even have a head!
Santana did not attempt to clean up or fix the dolls, but rather put them up as they are. And even when dolls arrived in good shape, the weather and wind naturally decomposed them over time, which created an eerie vibe.
If reports are to go by, Don lived here for 50 years before his death in 2001, and was found drowned in the same area in which he believed the little girl had died.
