There are dosas and then there’s the version served at Vinayaka Mylari hotel. In fact, this is such an institution that there are many namesakes and wannabes. But head straight for the original in Nazarbad, supposedly over 6 decades old. Only here will you get a slightly fluffy and crispy dosa, served with ladles of coconut chutney as well as the trademark ‘saagu’, a mildly-spiced curry in coconut base with a plethora of vegetables. And for that extra zing, the dosa is served with a dollop of butter. The restaurant itself is nondescript with an old world charm, something straight out of RK Narayan’s novels, especially the Malgudi series. To be fair, the eatery does have a menu, though not extensive, and does serve incredibly fluffy and light as air idlis. But it is the dosa that people come here for.
