While we are in absolute love with Bombay Mumbai, the city gave us more reasons to fall for it. This time, as I landed in Mumbai’s Andheri, the city had me hooked. A thriving hub of peppy cafes and restaurants, it is a treasure trove for the foodies. If you are in Andheri and fighting hunger pangs, here is your handpicked guide to the best places to eat. Yes, I had my eyes on all places that offer happy brunches and great wines. Go, gorge over.
1BHK - Brew House Kitchen
1BHK - Brew House Kitchen in Oshiwara is one of the finest places around, perfect for great evenings. This place has a very Goan vibe to it, peppy, light, live music stays in order for most of the days here. There is a lot of good stuff on the menu, including an irresistible choice of salads, starters (options read as interesting as Kale Chaat, hummus with poi, Bengali fish cutlet with Kasundi Mustard and more). The bar menu at 1BHK boasts of some of the choicest Wines, Bellinis, Sangrias, Spritzers and more. For desserts, we recommend Avocado Chocolate Popsicles and Creme Brulee.
D:OH! All Day Dining
This place would take you back to your college days, and you will not regret a meal here. A cheerful place, it has swings for some of its seats and an impressive bar menu to lift your spirits. An interesting, quirky place for breakfasts as well, they dole out some pretty good Mac n Cheese, sandwiches, small eats and platters. Their dumplings are quite a hit too, so is the Burmese Khao Suey.
Jamjar Diner
A very quaint eatery in Versova, it is for the lovers of all things quaint. Painted in a very cool shade teal and white (a respite in Mumbai weather), Jamjar Diner is more like stepping into the days of yore. Their sangria is out of the world, and so are the spread of burritos, ravioli, risotto, filet mignon, quesadillas and more. A Sunday afternoon is best spent here, with a book or your best people.
The Tanjore Tiffin Room
The Tanjore Tiffin Room is another gem in Versova, and one that you should definitely not skip. It opens at 12 noon, and serves hearty spreads of South Indian fare for the most ardent of food lovers. One look at their menu and you will know that you spoilt for choice; some must-haves here are Padmini’s mini-cutlets, mutton pepper fry, Pankajam’s lamb chops, gun powder idlis, jackfruit cutlets, paneer Chettinad, Sivagami’s jackfruit curry and more. Work up a good appetite before you land here, for the flavours here are irresistible and you would probably not want to stop.
Independence Brewing Co.
One of the best places for brunch and beer in Andheri West, the Independence Brewing Co. has a niche following. Those, who love their brews, should definitely try Belgian Wit, Oktoberfest Märzen, Nitro Porter, Apple Beer, and a whole variety of craft beer. Pair these up with nachos, bruschettas, paneer koliwada, stuffed mushrooms, fried calamari and more. Complimenting their great dining experience is the perfect warm ambience, welcoming to say the least.
Grandmama’s Cafe
This cafe in Juhu is more of an essential even when you are in Andheri! When there, do not skip this one as a bonus. It is right across the beach on Juhu Tara Road, and great for a leisurely evening. An old-school place with green chequered tablecloths, it will remind you of Enid Blyton’s tales. Coming to the grub here, while hummus is one of the best things about Grandmama’s Cafe, there is a lot more to gorge over. We recommend Grandmama’s Masala Omelette, Turkish Eggs, Baked Beans on Toast, Couscous Upma; their Baked Tartlets are also a speciality.
