It is another of Soho’s retail institutions, the coffee store is the place to get one of the cheapest (£1/expresso and £1.20/ cappuccino or Latte) and best coffees in London. However, do not expect any comfortable chairs and tables, as this is a standing room only, which gives it a real Mediterranean feel and ideal for those who are passing by and need caffeine to go. The Algerian Coffee Store has a legacy going back 128 years, and is now world renowned for supplying coffee and tea. As you can imagine, the shop sells everything related to coffee and the wonderful aroma that hits the senses on entering the shop is worth hanging around for. The store still retains period features, such as the original wooden counter and shelving from more than a century ago, and so it does feel like you have walked into a time warp. There is row upon row of glass storage jars containing fine coffee stretching from India to Colombia, and on another shelf the same amount and pedigree of loose leaf tea is available. Even more reason to make a visit and take in the coffee and old world charm.
