Described by owner Gerald as a ‘Malaccan Portuguese restaurant with Malaysian dishes’, Cristang is unreservedly pork-centric, and draws in customers for just that reason; after all, you can never get enough of a good thing. The burgers are ranked from P1 to P7—the digits denote both, the number of ingredients in the burger, as well as the audacity of said ingredients—so while P1 is a simple pork burger served sans any adornedments, P2 adds one additional accoutrement, and so on until you reach P6. Here’s where things get really interesting—if you have the cojones (that’s Spanish for courage), the aptly named Urban Legend P7 burger is a heart-stopping beast of a dish. Ingredients include chilli con carne, bacon and shredded petai (a local candlenut that is more of an acquired taste, and also the secret ingredients that makes this burger so joyously spectacular) among others, and you can opt for a side of homemade potato wedges fried in lard. What’s life if not for living a little dangerously?
