Enjoy Bavarian beer at this widely popular festival – The widely popular Beer event of Germany is a must for lovers of beer and travel. The Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival held in Munich since 1811. The festival started as part of the royal celebration after the marriage of Prince Ludwig I of Bavaria. The citizens were invited to celebrate the royal wedding in front of the city gates. The tradition has continued since then. The festival has evolved to become one of the long lasting public festivals with festivities lasting over a fortnight. The festival usually starts at end of September, and ends on the first Sunday of October. It attracts millions of tourists from the world over to this Bavarian capital. Small and large tents are built at the grounds of Theresienwiese, where you can choose not only the variety of beers, but also experience gourmet delights and variety of local delicacies. A traditional costume parade is an integral part of Oktoberfest. The men dressed in their Sonnenhut and Lederhosen, and the women in their Dirndl add to the charisma of the event. The beer brewed within the city limits of Munich is allowed to be served at the fest. This is a good way to explore the rich culture and heritage of Germany.
