No matter what the season, a train trip in India is always a good choice. Nothing can beat the sightseeing experience on an Indian train – the manner in which a lot of things unfold before your vision is special. While your journey is on, it is hard to keep your hunger pangs unattended, and here comes to your rescue, the rail pantry car. Several trains running long distances within India offer meals on-board to the passengers. While some fail in it, others nail it well. Ahead, know about the express and superfast trains that are forerunners in serving good food.
The superfast trains
Mumbai–Delhi Rajdhani and Howrah Yesvantpur Superfast Express are reputed for serving very delicious food. Though, some passengers may say that the first-class travellers get the best dining experience, food served to the passengers of other classes nevertheless tastes well. The food served in Rajdhani is both quantitatively and qualitatively good.
Tejas Express
This new high-speed train has been well-received by the passengers in India for all the good reasons. Among other facilities, Tejas Express serves mouth-watering food to the passengers starting from breakfast to dinner.
Lokmanya Tilak Terminus – Coimbatore (Train no. 11013)
This train, too, has been rated well for its meals. Expect delicious bites like idli-vada, dosa –vada or upma-vada for breakfast. For lunch, the train serves papad, jeera rice, chapati, vegetable curry, dal, buttermilk, pickle and a dessert. There are evening snacks in the form of banana bhaji, cutlets and samosa among other options. The dinner may comprise Kerala-style dishes, curries etc.
Duronto Express Trains
Duronto trains have earned a fair reputation for the variety and quality of food they serve to the passengers. The Bangalore Yesvantpur Rajdhani Express, Yesvantpur–Delhi Sarai Rohilla AC Duronto Express and Sealdah-New Delhi Duronto Express have been rated well for their food quality. What to expect? The train serves tea or coffee in the morning followed by a breakfast comprising bread, jam, vada etc. In the afternoon, passengers are served vegetable curry, dal, roti, rice and curd.
Mandovi/Konkan Kanya Express
Mandovi Konkan Kanya Express runs between Mumbai C.S.T to Madgaon. This train has grown in popularity for its well-made food served to the passengers. Already, this train has received good ratings on train booking apps for its food quality. In addition, passengers can choose diet variant meals on this train.
