Warung Mak Beng

Being an island, Bali has some particularly good seafood and one of the specialties is sup kepala ikan (fish head soup), which is a rich soup made from a generous portion of fried fish, aromatic spices and served with rice. Warung Mak Beng is a simple and cheap traditional, local restaurant in Sanur that is famous for its fish head soup and, undoubtedly, the best place on the island to try this local speciality.

Warung Mak Beng opened in 1941 and has been one of the most famous warungs in Sanur ever since, famous for serving its signature fish soup. The warung only has one set menu that consists of a the fish soup, spicy sambal trasi, fried fish fillet, white rice and a drink and is located just meters from the beach in Sanur so you know it’s all fresh. This place is so popular that it can get quite crowded, but if you fall in love with the distinctive taste of the fish soup you can also buy a bottle of the famous chilli sauce to take home.
