We can’t deny the fact that the cities in North India can get a bit hectic during the festival. So, if you want some peace and quiet (read clean air!), check these hill getaways we have listed out for you.
Manali, Himachal Pradesh
Manali in October, you can’t go wrong with that. The rains have already eased up, the weather has cleared up beautifully, the temperature hasn’t reached the freezing point yet and you can still enjoy the outdoors.
Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh
Let’s face it, Dharamsala, as popular as it is, is very beautiful without tourists. If you don’t mind the tourists, Dharamsala is a good place for a getaway over a long weekend. Clean air, easy treks, a bit of chill and sunshine, at least you will be far from the city’s smog.
Mussoorie, Uttarakhand
The weather is always cool this time of the year. Mussoorie is best enjoyed with friends and family. Explore places like the Happy Valley and George Everest Peak (an easy hike up Sir George Everest’ home) when in Mussoorie.
Lansdowne, Uttarakhand
It’s finally dry season in Lansdowne now that the rains have stopped. But it can get pretty chilly too so carry proper warm clothes. The peace and quiet of Lansdowne and the tranquil moments spent in the lap of nature are something you will appreciate when you go back to the city. Breathe easy here in Lansdowne.
Chamba, Himachal Pradesh
This scenic little district is pristine and doesn’t fall on the usual touristy route. It can be a great escape. It’s definitely far from the city and town’s hustle and bustle. Here, you can interact with the locals and enjoy the quiet outdoors.
Dhanaulti, Uttarakhand
Not very far away from Mussoorie is the sleepy hamlet of Dhanaulti. Be surrounded by alpine and rhododendron forests, quiet little meadows and pretty streams. It’s an idyllic getaway. Dhanaulti Eco Park is a great place for some quality time in nature.
Chail, Himachal Pradesh
Chail, just 63 km from Shimla, is that place you go to when you want to escape the touristy crowd of Shimla! This quaint town by the Satluj river enjoys great weather throughout the year. From here, you can get beautiful views of Shimla and Kasauli.
