Word to the wise: When the market starts to shut up shop, follow the locals and head over to one of the many bars and cafes that surround the square.

On Wednesday evenings, Brussels' young, trendy locals and expats come in droves to this square for the legendary weekly market that's surrounded by Art Nouveau buildings and filled with delectables.
Though renowned for its incredible cheese stalls and its huge variety of fresh produce, the real attraction is the market's atmosphere, both relaxed and communal. From 5pm - 7pm, when people start to spill out of work and make their way to Place du Chatelain, its pavements buzz with life and the olive, cheese, cold meats, oysters and wine tasting stands are packed. There is plenty to buy, including gorgeous arts and crafts, but it's the social side that makes this place so popular.
