Built in the 17th century by damming the Gomti River, this is the largest artificial lake in the country. It is located at a distance of 50 kilometres from Udaipur. There is a wildlife sanctuary here, which is home to leopards, deer, boars and several migratory birds. Its banks also contain beautiful marble cenotaphs, a temple and the Hawa Mahal palace, the winter retreat for the rulers of Mewar. You can have lunch at the Jaisamand Island Resort, located on an island in the middle of the lake.
