Every year, between September and April, millions of people gun for Rishikesh for one reason alone, white water rafting. There are several gushing rapids ranging from ferocious to mild along the stretch from Shivpuri down till Ram Jhula. Shivpuri, Marine Drive, Brahmpuri and Kaudiyala are the four hottest spots to pick between. The best way to do it, is by going in groups of six, though you can jump aboard one of the other packed rafts if you’re alone. Each raft carries has a trained guide aboard to help steer through the rapids and handle the situation in case of an emergency, and furthermore, you’re safely bundled into life jackets in the event of you being tossed into the Ganges. As you meander down the swells and falls of the river, it does require some amount of stamina to row your paddle in keeping with your guide’s instructions. At one point you have the option of disembarking for the cliff jump which looks tamer than it is once you’re at the top. A must-do adventure that’ll leave you spent and satisfied.
