Located in the middle of the bustling Frenchmen Street, with a host of other jazz bars and live music venues, Maison has remarkably held its own. What’s probably also got it going is the choice of three stages, and live music throughout the week. The place specialises in traditional New Orleans jazz but also has a long line up of brass, and funk bands such as the New Orleans Jazz Vipers, and Smoking Time Jazz Club. It is the backstage which is more popular since it usually features big name musicians and bands, especially the touring ones. And while a beer might be the safest bet, the place also rustles up some mean cocktails, especially the classic ones and New Orleans specials such as sazerac. As for food, Blue Nile does a nice shrimp and grits, and a few Creole dishes, but burgers and pub grub are done better.
