A roofed arcade that extends up to 600 m, the Shinsaibashi Suji is a revered shopping destination in Osaka, and could easily be the city’s answer to the glorious Champs Elysees. With a cluster of independent boutiques along with local and international brands, this place gives retail therapy a new definition. It is some 400 years old, and continues to be the most popular place to purchase clothes, shoes, cosmetics, jewellery, toys, and electronics in the commercial capital. The Daimaru Department Store is located right here. Moreover, if you intend to get hold of souvenirs in the form of Kimono sets, Shinsaibashi Suji is a great place to be, as there are tailors who could customise these traditional robes for you. There are a number of Japanese and Western restaurants that you could dine in, and the presence of free WiFi and tax free products is an added advantage for shoppers. And if you intend to buy nothing, this arcade is perfect for strolling around in oblivion, and staring at the glass windows of these colourful stores.
Shinsaibashi Suji is a two minute walk from the Shinsaibashi Subway Station, and is perpetually chock a block with visitors owing to its lively atmosphere. Adjacent to Osaka’s beloved Amerikamura, the shops dotting this arcade are usually open from 11 in the morning till around 9 in the evening.
