Crystal Bay is considered the best dive site in Nusa Penida, and it is on an island at about 20 km from Bali. It is located on the south west coast of the island and its main feature is a shallow bay that offers shelter from the currents and is the perfect starting point for a dive. Although the corals in the area are beautiful, the real rockstar is the mola mola, the heaviest known bony fish in the world, which can be often spotted here. Current at Crystal Bay can be moderate to strong, but depending on the tides it can be raging—thus making it an experienced divers’ only site. Visibility is excellent, between 30 and 50 m, the name indeed derives from the crystal clear waters. It can get very crowded during mola mola oceanic sunfish season between July and October.
