Located west of Dubrovnik, Montenegro is a country in the South East of Europe sharing the same Adriatic coastline as Croatia. Relatively small, Montenegro boasts of some of the well-renowned World Heritage sites. The towns of Herceg Novi, Budva and Kotor are easily accessible from Dubrovnik by road. A day trip to Montenegro is a great escape from Croatia; it gives an opportunity to explore the off-the-beaten-path towns of Europe. The idyllic Bay of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage site, can be the first stopover. The scenic ferry ride across the bay reveals the beauty of rustic green mountains dotted with medieval sea facing villages. Kotor is the next town enroute. Explore the UNESCO-protected town by foot and reminisce over the history of Montenegro. The ancient walls within its boundaries contain narrow lanes and charming squares. The medieval walled seaside town of Budva lies ahead of Kotor. The town famous for a serene beach is an ideal stopover for sumptuous seafood lunch. Road tripping in Montenegro is the real journey on the road less travelled. The stunning coastal vistas will leave lasting impressions!
