The trailed regions of Exit Glacier and the option of guided walks and lectures allow visitors to Kenai Fjords National Park to witness and inspect an active glacier. On the rocky retreating edge you can see flora gradually reclaiming the newly exposed landscape. Some of the ice in the Exit Glacier is run through with debris and looks like it has been churned, but there are still several smooth cascades and the blue heart of the ice can be seen through the fissured surface. The Exit Glacier is one of 35 glaciers which come off the Harding Icefield. It has begun to recede more rapidly in recent years, and the difference in size is noticeable with every passing year. This is a more commercialised experience, but it is comfortable and there are trails suitable for families and the less adventurous. There is also reasonable vehicle access.
