One of the most popular attractions of Istanbul, Grand Bazaar is a not-to-be-missed destination not only for shopaholics but also for penniless travellers looking for entertainment. The bazaar is one of the biggest covered markets in the world, but it wasn't always like that. Originally built over 500 years ago as an open-air market, it was rebuilt and restored several times because of recurrent fires and accidents. Ancestor of modern shopping malls, Grand Bazaar is so big that it's easy to get lost in its 61 alleys and 3000 shops, which are always crowded by so many visitors that it can undoubtedly be counted amongst the most visited attractions in the world.
