Jim Thompson House

While it might be the first time you’ve heard his name, American Jim Thompson is a well-known figure around these parts. Famous for reigniting the silk industry in Thailand during the period between late forties and early sixties, Thompson left a large mark on his adopted homeland. As legend has it, he almost single-handedly brought Thai silk to the international stage by showing it at fashion hot-spots like Paris and London.
Thompson, originally an architect by profession, was also extremely influential in Bangkok’s design industry. His Bangkokian buildings favored teak, and blended American and Thai styles to create something altogether unique. Over the years he collected many Asian artisanal items, which he took care to display in his legendary home—now known as The Jim Thompson House. Touring his beautiful structures will inspire your senses and might even motivate you to add some more flair to your own abode. The museum is well worth a visit for anyone interested in architecture and design.
