Situated in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam, Kaziranga National Park is amongst India’s best-known wildlife sanctuaries. Home to the famed one-horned rhinoceros, it houses almost two-thirds of the world’s total rhino population. In addition to the rhino, you'll also spot a large breeding population of the elephant, wild water buffalo and swamp deer. Home to the famed one-horned rhinoceros, it houses almost two-thirds of the world’s total rhino population. In addition to the rhino, you'll also spot a large breeding population of the elephant, wild water buffalo and swamp deer. The Park stretches along the flood plains of the Brahmaputra river, and is flanked on either side by tea estates. Due to a large network of ponds, streams, grasslands, tropical wet evergreen and semi-evergreen forests, the flora and fauna in this region is both rich, and diverse. Asiatic Water Buffalo, Eastern Swamp Deer, herbivores elephants, Tiger, Gaur and Sambar, Indian Mangoose, Civets, Golden Jackal, Bengal Fox, Hispid Hare, Gray Mangoose, Chinese Pangolin, Sloth Bear, and Indian Pangolins are other species of animals spotted during a usual Kaziranga National Park tour. Feathered beauties such as Black-necked Stork, White-fronted Goose, Greater Adjutant, Ferruginous Duck, Lesser Adjutant, and Asian Openbill stork make for an ideal muse for the shutterbugs visiting the park. The nearest railway station to Kaziranga is Furkating, which is 75 km away. Furkating is connected by trains from Guwahati, besides from New Delhi and Kolkata. If a road trip interests you, then reach the Kaziranga National Park from National Highway 37. The nearest bus stop to reach Kaziranga is in Kohara. Buses operating from Guwahati, Tezpur, Dimapur and Upper Assam all pass through Kohara. Finding a suitable accommodation is the next thing you would think of before planning a trip to the park.
