Every year hundreds of tourists visit the hallowed city of Marrakech to source the perfect carpet. Moroccan carpets have quite the reputation worldwide. They’re considered to be some of the finest in the world. Every region in Morocco produces different kinds of carpets and rugs. Some specialise in ornamental rugs decorated with colourful pom-poms while others boast of distinctive tribal designs on a rusty-red colour. Zemmour and Zaiane styles are most popular but experts claim that there are over 45 styles of Moroccan carpet making that can be traced back to various tribes. Traditionally Moroccan carpets are made with pure wool but modern variations often contain a mix of synthetic fibres, cotton, and wool.
