The museum is preparing for a creepy and spooky night but virtually. A series of Facebook live events are scheduled by the museum for Halloween night. These events involve all kinds of animals and insects such as spiders, roaches, bats and scorpions. Fossilised skeletons will also play a huge role in scaring people.
Not only this, the museum has also planned a virtual costume contest. The programing was kicked off on October 22 with an entomologist (an expert in the branch of zoology concerned with insects) sharing fun facts about arthropods.
On October 27, curators will talk about the evolution and ecology of bats, and virtually transport watchers on “expeditions” to Belize and Cuba. Later, a paleontologist will take over and will explain rattling fossil bones.
On November 1, the Day of the Dead will be celebrated at the museum which will pay a tribute to the extinct animal species such as the monk seal and the golden toad, among others.
The prime highlight of the event is the virtual costume contest, wherein people and even pets are asked to share a picture dressed on Halloween theme on their social media profiles and tag the museum on Twitter or Instagram by October 31 at 7 PM. Whoever wins the costume contest will get four tickets to the museum as a winning gift.
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the most famous museums in the world located close to Central Park West in New York City. The museum was reopened with myriad restrictions in late August after remaining shut for more than seven months.
Advance booking is required to visit the museum and visitors need to follow all the COVID-19 health precautions.
