Located in the Carrollton area, in uptown New Orleans, Maple Leaf Bar is over 40 years old, and has the distinction of having live performances every day of the week. Showcasing a grunge look, with pressed tin walls and ceiling, the place deliberately exudes a run-down vibe. But that’s just a facade and the stage, dance floor, and the sound system are all fabulous. The Leaf, as it is affectionately called by its fans, is not just about jazz, but also funk, R&B, blues, rock, and many other genres. While some of the biggest names have played here including The Society Jazz Band, Rebirth Brass Band, James Booker, Papa Grows Funk, and many from the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, it has also nurtured talent and offered platforms for students of the two local universities.
