Museion is one of the latest additions to Bolzano. Inaugurated in 2008, it hosts exhibitions of modern and contemporary art and spaces here are also used as a venue for events. A rich permanent collection is enriched by temporary exhibitions displayed over the four floors of the structure. The architecture of the building has a distinctive modern look that makes it a recognisable landmark. It was designed by a German firm according not only to aesthetic reasons but also to rules of energy efficiency and thematic particularly dear in South Tyrol. The cubic shape of the structure has been rendered with a frontal face totally covered in a continuous glass window. The interior instead was designed as a flexible and fluid space easily adaptable to the ever changing needs of the different exhibitions. Two curved pedestrian and cycling bridges cross the Talavera River just in front of the main entrance, adding an organic touch to the strict lines of Museion. At night they are nicely enlightened creating a pleasant atmosphere. A standard ticket to visit the Museion costs 7€ as of today but during special events, it’s even possible to have free access to its galleries.
