Sydney is the music and culture festival capital of the world, hosting more events every year than any other city in the world. And therefore you don’t really need to plan your itinerary to catch one: just land up and you’ll find something or the other going on. Sydneysiders like all Australians are also very passionate about sport and the Rugby League is king during the winter months (ask a local to escort you to their next team game) while September heralds spring racing season (don a fascinator to join the fillies at Randwick Racecourse in the Eastern Suburbs). Summer signals the nation's favourite backyard sport, cricket and you can catch a proper game at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Moore Park. There’s also a surfeit of theatres and no trip to Sydney is complete without catching a film at one of the city’s open-air cinemas.
