From the Brahmaputra River to the centuries-old Kamakhya Temple, there are many places to visit in Guwahati. As a city in Assam, Guwahati stands at a rather awkward place. Often mistaken as the capital, this city is the main hub of the state, and yet, not as scenic as its other counterparts. All major connecting flights and trains stop here and people are disgruntled by the dust, traffic and noise. Assam is the gateway to north-eastern states, but it is also a very large state with different characters and diverse cultures. Guwahati can be said to be the centre of development in the state and actively acts as the commercial hub. It is constantly growing, with mainstay being trading and other business ventures. Geographically, Guwahati is on a very advantageous stance. On one side lies the meandering Brahmaputra, which provides life to many of the villages around the city, and on the other side, the hill ranges of Meghalaya, which gives a cool respite to the residents of these plains.
