After Lathmar Holi and the Rangwali Holi, it is time for Rang Panchami. It’s been five days after Holi celebrations, people. Already millions of Holi fans have painted their bodies and the nation in myriad hues and swayed with kindred spirits. They have jumped in pools of coloured water and trudged through enthusiastic crowds to make the most of the fest. If you still haven't had your fill of the colourful fest, there is still time to get on that, today!
Rang Panchami loosely translates into “colour” and “fifth day” respectively. It means, the festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fortnight of the lunar month of Phalgun month when the moon is in its waning stage. The ancient lore holds this day important as on this day, the holy deities are invoked by throwing colours in the air and, thus, the sattva or spiritual purity in the air magnifies.

So, if you wish to soak up some more colours, states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat will surely inspire you to get out to the Rang Panchami 2018 fest on Tuesday, March 6. In Indore, the festival grew in popularity during the rule of the Holkar dynasty. And as always, the city of Indore has braced up to paint the town in the hues of Rang Panchami.
The celebrations…
Holi is never Holi without loads of gulaal, dances, traditional cuisine, processions and other festive paraphernalia. So, rest assured, Rang Panchami celebrations are no less than the Holi celebrations held otherwise across India.
