In 1919 Morris Shumiatcher opened the business after borrowing $300 from the bank and soon gained the reputation for being the best hat makers in the city. In 1946 he decided to do something a little different and he created the first ever white cowboy hat. How this happened was in 1949 the mayor of Calgary started handing out these white to visiting dignitaries and started wearing one himself. The hats took off and still today this tradition continues.
