Tourism industry in Hong Kong majorly hit by the ongoing protests

Seems like Hong Kong’s anti-government protests are not going to end soon. This in return has hit the tourism industry in Hong Kong on a huge scale. According to reports, Hong Kong’s economy went down by 3.2 percent in July-September, which is called a technical recession period. This drop is the second consecutive following a 0.5 percent dip in April-June.
For Hong Kong, October is considered an excellent month for tourism but not this year. The number of tourists and visitors has drastically gone down by nearly 50 percent through the first half of the month. A number of event planners were forced to cancel concerts, conferences and sports in October, given the current violence in the city.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam said that the increasingly violent reality since June is badly hurting Hong Kong's economy. He also said that the retail, catering, transport and other tourism-related industries have been largely affected by the protests.
The Hong Kong protests initially were peaceful as there was no violence involved. But very soon anti-government activists and police started to have clashes which turned violent. This scared away a number Chinese tourists who are quite common on the streets of Hong Kong.

The clashes between the two groups (police and activists) have also impacted service on subways, main roads and tunnels too, making it difficult for all.

Not only this, these ongoing protests are also hampering airline industry. Flight arrivals and bookings to Hong Kong airport have dropped like never before! In fact, the airport at Hong Kong was even shut down temporarily by activists in the month of August that had an adverse effect on the tourism industry.
