Village Museum

The Village Museum is our favourite attraction in Bucharest, and if you just have half a day to spend in the city then this is the place you should not miss. Created in 1936, the museum is located inside Herastrau Park and requires a small entrance fee, which is worth it. Muzeul Național al Satului Dimitrie Gusti, as it is called in Romanian, is an outdoor museum and park that hosts traditional buildings from all over Romania, providing a magical journey through Romanian traditions and history. It's estimated to host a total of 272 dwellings and farms, several wooden churches, plus some industrial machines such as watermills and primitive wooden washing machines.

While visiting the museum not only is it possible to admire the exterior of the dwellings, but also explore the interiors, furnished with original pieces and decorations. It's worth making a note that most of these buildings are original constructions relocated here from their original locations. Informative panels outside each of these buildings explain where these buildings existed and their architectural features. The Village Museum of Bucharest is not the only one of its kind in Romania; another outdoor museum worth a visit is located in the outskirts of the city of Sibiu, a popular destination in Transylvania.
