Walt Disney Family Museum

For all the Disney fans out there, the Walt Disney Family Museum is a must see. The museum was established by Walt Disney’ daughter and the Disney foundation. It commemorates his life and work and goes in depth into his drive and passion for creativity and entertainment.

The museum is located in the Presidio of San Francisco and is part of the Golden Gate Historical Park. Spread across two floors and 40,000 sq ft of space, the museum dives into Walt’s life and achievements. Starting with his childhood, the exhibits take you through his life and family growing up in Missouri. His love of art (as you’d expect!) started very early. There are many doodles and sketches on display that Disney did as a young boy or during his time in High School.
The galleries move on to his work and professional life in Hollywood and the establishment of the Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. There are many samples of work exhibited through a total of 10 different galleries. The galleries show the detail that goes into producing an animation, as well as gives visitors a behind the scenes look at some of the world’s most iconic characters like Mickey Mouse and Pinocchio.

The museum also documents the move into technology, from pen and paper into digital animation and the many experiments Disney played with in creating his animations and feature films. Walt Disney Family Museum is a must see for Disney fans and those interested in learning more about the man behind the name.
