For a break from Dubai’s all-pervasive flamboyance, hop on to a traditional wooden water taxi or abra and travel along the Dubai Creek. Once the centre of the city’s trading activities, the creek connects Bur Dubai and Deira. The shortest rides run between the Bur Dubai Area Station near the Textile Souk and the Deira Old Souk Abra Station near the spice and gold souks. Unlike much of Dubai, the going rates are cheap, and rides start at as little as one dirham. You can also hire an abra for a longer cruise. Great views of the city’s mosques, souks and towering skyscrapers are guaranteed. Read less
