Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will have Asia’s largest wildlife highway corridor

Very soon, the much-awaited Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will be operational. The corridor, after its opening, will be the longest elevated corridor in Asia measuring 12 km. The highway will reduce the travel time between the two cities from 6 hours to 2.5 hours only. But there’s another reason to rejoice. The expressway, once operational, will be home to the largest wildlife highway corridor in Asia.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting took to Twitter and shared the wonderful news. Calling it Pragati ka Highway, the ministry said that it is Asia’s longest elevated wildlife corridor which is under construction and it will also protect wildlife.

The road will also allow travellers to reach Haridwar in just two hours from Delhi. The expressway will connect Delhi to Uttarakhand via Saharanpur, Bhagpat, Shamli and Ghaziabad.
The wildlife corridor will be the last 20 km stretch and will go through the eco-sensitive zone of Rajaji National Park. As of now, this corridor work is under process, and will also include a 340-m Daat Kali (a famous temple in Dehradun) tunnel. The corridor is being constructed to protect surrounding wildlife.

It’s an important project as the expressway will reduce the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to a considerable 2.5 hours. This will allow Delhiites a quick getaway to all nearby tourist destinations such as Dehradu, Haridwar and Mussoorie, among others.
