Originally intended to last for ten years, the UDAN initiative will now view an extension as a step towards improving regional connections and maintaining the momentum of aviation industry development.
Vumlunmang Vualnam, the secretary of civil aviation, emphasised the government's emphasis on enhancing the scheme's financial viability and simplifying the associated procedures. Over 1.44 crore people have benefited from 2.8 lakh flights operated by 86 aerodromes, including 71 airports, 13 heliports, and two water aerodromes, which have been operationalised under UDAN, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. From 74 in 2014 to 157 in 2024, India's airport network has doubled, and the government plans to expand to 350–400 airports by 2047.
