Jammu and Kashmir travel advisory: Avalanche warning issued in 4 districts

Jammu and Kashmir State Disaster Management Authority has said that there is a probability of a ‘low danger level’ avalanche occurring above 3200 to 3500 m above sea level over Kishtwar, Doda, Bandipora and Kupwara districts.

The disaster management authority has advised those living in these areas to take necessary precautions and avoid venturing into avalanche-prone areas for safety measures till further orders.
As per the latest reports, four vehicles got buried under snow yesterday, following an avalanche near the Zojila pass in Ladakh's Kargil district. Those inside the vehicles managed to escape unhurt. The avalanche occurred near Shaitani Nallah along the 434-km Srinagar-Leh National Highway.

Earlier this year in February, two foreigners were killed in an avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir’s Gulmarg, when as many as 19 stranded tourists from overseas and 2 local guides were rescued.
Baramulla police informed through a statement that three teams, comprising 21 foreigners and two local guides, went to Affarwat Gulmarg for skiing. The skiing teams were trapped in Hapatkhud Kangdori, where they went skiing. The Baramulla police acted promptly on receiving information, and mobilised joint rescue teams of JKP and the tourism department, and reached the avalanche site to rescue people.
