Kamakhya Devi Temple in Assam to get a golden dome this Diwali

Assam’s Kamakhya Devi Temple will join the league of Shirdi Sai Baba Temple and Amritsar’s Golden Temple this Diwali for having a dome made of the gilded metal.

According to the reports, the famous shaktipeeth, Kamakhya Temple, will have a dome made of gold. About 20 kg of sheer gold has been donated to the shrine by a leading businessmen in India.
Reportedly, the preliminary work has been completed and gold leafing of three bigger kalash surrounding the dome is in progress. The final work will be done by Diwali.
Kamakhya Devi Temple is located on the Nilachal Hills in the western side of Guwahati in Assam. It is a special shrine for the fact that it has a vulva-shaped depression as deep as 10 inches, which is worshipped as the Goddess herself in the main shrine. It is believed that the Goddess menstruates once every year, which is celebrated in the form of Ambubachi Mela in Kamakhya.
Lakhs of tourists and devotees gather in the region to take blessings of the goddess during the mela. Nilachal Hills are known for their historical, archeological and spiritual importance.
