Chamoli DM Himanshu Khurana has requested travellers to stay back at Joshimath and Pandukeshwar until the condition gets better in the region. Not only this, they have banned all kinds of adventure activities for now including trekking, mountaineering and camping in the Nanda Devi biosphere reserve and Gopeshwar till October 19.
Along with Chamoli, 12 other districts including Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, Haridwar, Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, Almora, Nainitalk Champawat, Dehradun Tehri and Pauri will also receive heavy rainfall, as per IMD note.
The state government has asked administrations of Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Rudrparayag to be extra careful amid heavy rains. Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has assured people that all arrangements have been made.
“I have spoken with Chief Secretary and all DMs-SSPs Meanwhile, most educational institutions across Uttarakhand will remain closed on Monday while there will be a ban on trekking, mountaineering, and camping activities in the high altitude areas of the state till Tuesday as a precautionary measure in view of the heavy rain alert issued by the Met department,” informed the CM.
