Behind the street-art facade lies a subtle, hidden gem
Word to the wise: You can continue your evening revelry across the road at Big Star, which serves excellent tacos and a large range of whiskeys in a buzzy atmosphere.

The Violet Hour is a speakeasy-style bar whose entrance, hidden behind graffiti art, is (purposely) easy to miss. Here hipsters don their finery and come to share close conversations in the intimacy created by high-backed chairs and dark drapes. If you can see through the candlelight, watch girls giggle coquettishly over their cocktails while guys stroke their beards and lean in close.
There are house rules – dress up a little, no phones, no party add-ons, no bad drinks (order from the menu) – and staff can be abrupt if protocol is breached. But fans of expertly crafted cocktails and refined conversation in outstanding surroundings will find it delightful – that is, if they can find it.
