ABOUT HIS GUJARAT ROOTS

My father Nanabhai Bhatt was from Porbandar — I recently had a chance of visiting the town. I was happy to see my home there, meeting my father’s friend and understanding my roots. I think, I carry that Gujarati genes in me and I guess that’s why I could never turn a non-vegetarian.

There’s still miles to go for this industry to reach at par with other regional cinema industry like Marathi and Bengali. But I have been hearing good things about the winds of change in Gujarati cinema. If I ever make a movie about my father, it will be in Gujarati. But I will have to do a lot of research about it as I don’t have a detailed understanding of Gujarati culture and literature.
