Raksha Bandhan special: 'Gaatchora' to 'Mithai'; TV shows that celebrate sibling love

The bond between a brother and sister can’t be explained in words. They play different roles in our lives depending on the scenarios. Sometimes, they are the best friend, confidante, caring mother or a father figure. They are the partners-in-crime as well as our moral compass too at the time of need. The beautiful bond has always been an inspiration to the writers who tried to reflect the emotion shared between brothers and sisters through fictional characters. The family drama beautifully portrays the bond among the members of the Mukherjee family who believe in certain ideologies. From senior most member Siddheshwar Mukherjee, the eldest brother and father figure to Potka, Bhajan to doting bhais from next generation’s Soujanya and Riju; the TV show features a number of characters that simply stole hearts of TV audience. Protagonist Anandi is yet another example of an ideal sister. The reel character is beautifully woven by Leena Gangopadhyay. Elder sister Anandi sacrificed everything for her family and younger sister Nanda. Anandi is dutiful, responsible and kind-hearted. She always stood by Nanda despite the latter conspiring against her. Anandi tries to protect her sister like a shield and raised her voice when Nanda faced domestic violence at her in-laws' place. No Mou isn’t Meghna’s sister. But what she did for her sister-in-law Meghna is worth a mention. Bhabi Mou who considers Meghna as her sister protested against the continuous abuse the latter has been facing. She called the cops and handed over Meghna’s abusive husband Anupam. Like a protective shield, she saved Meghna. The show beautifully portrayed the relationship between Mou and Meghna.

The Gourab Chatterjee-Solanki Roy starrer also beautifully paints the relationship between siblings. While ideal sister Khori made numerous sacrifices to protect sisters; she didn’t give a second thought while teaching Dyuti a lesson when needed. The Sean Banerjee-Srijla Guha starrer beautifully portrays the bond between a brother and sister. Doting brother Rishiraj has always been protective of sister Rusha.
