Rishi Kaushik advocates for married women wearing vermillion amidst divorce speculation with wife Debjani Chakraborty

Rishi Kaushik’s marital life has been in the news for quite some time. The popular face of the Bengali entertainment industry shared a cryptic video on his social media profile a week back where he spoke about a certain couple and the growing differences between them. Although Rishi did not mention any name, it was evident that he was narrating the situation of his own life. Speculations of Rishi’s divorce with his wife Debjani Chakraborty gained momentum since then. Although the actor did not address the rumours up front, he has been sharing cryptic posts and videos on his social media profile ever since.

Recently, Rishi wrote a post on social media advocating for married women wearing vermillion. The actor shared a photo of a married woman wearing vermillion and wrote, “Everyone has the liberty to conduct their personal life as they see fit. But if a man asks his wife to wear vermillion, does that mean that the man is not modern enough? By that logic, our mother and sisters who wear vermillion are not modern as well!”

Rishi’s post has sparked a debate online and thus divided the netizens into two groups. Many of them have found Rishi’s post regressive, whereas rest of them have agreed with his argument. Some of them have even commented that Rishi and Debjani should amicably sort out their differences and move forward.

A week back, Rishi posted a video on Facebook where he asked why it was assumed that only women went through heartbreak and the plight of men was always overlooked. Rishi claimed to narrate a story through his video and asked his fans and well-wishers for advice. In the video, Rishi said, the woman in the story had been unhinged from day one. However, the woman promised the man that she would change after the wedding but in vain. Rishi claimed the woman became more adamant after the wedding. The woman in Rishi’s story worked abroad, supposedly had several male companions, and lived a reckless life. The actor claimed the woman portrayed herself like a saint and kept badmouthing her husband to everyone. Rishi said in the video that she even claimed that her husband had become deranged and mentally unstable. Rishi revealed that the man in this story had tried his best to carry on with the relationship for the last 12 years but he could not do it anymore. What should he do? Rishi asked for suggestions and advice from his well-wishers at the end of the video. Rishi did not mention himself or his wife in the video. However, it was not difficult to understand that he was essaying his own marriage story.

A few days later, Debjani posted a statement on Facebook, writing, “Over the last few days, people have been constantly asking me about certain posts on social media made by my husband. I find these posts extremely derogatory and they have led to my humiliation and embarrassment. I want to state the allegations made against me in the posts are completely false, mala fide, unwarranted and arbitrary. They have been made with the deliberate intention to harm and injure my reputation and to serve his own subservient malinterests. Any law-abiding gentleman/citizen will approach the Court for redressal of grievance, if any, instead of seeking public opinion on our personal lives. In continuation of his cruelty and torture upon me, he has committed such an offence taking undue advantage of my patience and tolerance. This is his last resort to pressurise me to act as per his terms and fulfill his wrongful demands. I have sought legal help about this and will take the necessary steps very soon. I am not in a position to speak more about it yet. I’m in discussions with my lawyers and I shall forthwith take all steps following due process of law.”

Rishi Kaushik has been married to his wife Debjani for 12 years. The couple recently sparked separation speculation after the actor shared a few cryptic posts on social media. On the work front, Rishi had his breakthrough performance on ‘Ekdin Pratidin’ and ‘Ekhane Aakash Neel’. The actor is currently seen working on ‘Jhanak’.
